Domestic businesses seek deeper opportunity with Argentina

Argentina wants to further enhance trade and investment relations with Vietnam, Argentinean Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religions, Carlos Bianco told Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Tran Tuan Anh.

At their meeting on August 31, the two parties pledged to negotiate a legal framework to create a niche for Vietnamese products to enter into Argentina, and narrow the gaps in trade exchanges between the two countries.

Tuan Anh, in turn, expressed his hope that the two sides focus  more effort in  implementing agreements reached at the Argentina-Vietnam inter-government meeting, held in Buenos Aires last year.

He asked the South American nation to open the door for Vietnamese dragon fruits, citrus fruits, lychees and longan.

The same day, the Argentina Chamber of Commerce (ACC) hosted an Argentina–Vietnam Business Forum, attracting a large number of businesses involved in agriculture, food, cement, pharmacy, construction and infrastructure from each country.

ACC Export-Import Committee President Víctor Dosoretz appreciated more than 20 Vietnamese businesses for seeking investment opportunities in his country and updated the economic situation and potential for future stronger cooperation with Vietnam.

He stated trade between the two countries in recent years posted a high growth rate, tallying in at US$1.92 billion in 2014, up 20.6% from a year earlier.

The combined export-import turnover jumped 34% to US$970 million in the first half of this year.

Tuan Anh said despite facing a number of difficulties, Vietnam continues to pursue open-door and international economic integration policies by offering the best possible conditions for foreign investors, including those from Argentina.

At the forum, business representatives also discussed cooperative opportunities in a wide range of areas.

Vietnam exports footwear, rubber, garments, tea, coffee, and agricultural machines, and imports animal feed, plant and animal oil, cereals, leather, beef and cotton from Argentina.
