Tran Quang Tuyen, Minister Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in India, said the embassy is liaising with the Indian Embassy in Nepal, India’s rescue mission, and Kathmandu-based agencies to search for and support Vietnamese nationals in the country, most of whom were travelling there when the earthquake struck.

By the morning of April 30, eight Vietnamese citizens arrived in Kathmandu safely and are scheduled to take a flight back to Vietnam on May 5.

Five Everest climbers who were trapped on Namche Bazaar also moved to Lukla town safely and will arrive in Kathmandu by air on May 1, Tuyen told Vietnam News Agency correspondents via telephone.

He noted that the working group is coordinating with the insurance company AIG to help Vietnamese citizens return home.

The group is seeking ways to make contact with those unaccounted for and send them assistance.

Earlier, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh said of the more than 60 Vietnamese people travelling in Nepal at the time of the quake, 22 have returned to their homeland while 40 others remain stranded.

Hotline numbers for those with information or in need of support are:
