Indonesia has tightened security at its airports after a terrorist threat was directed at an airport in Jakarta and recent terror attacks around the world, according to the country’s Transport Ministry.
Random checks are being carried out on cargo and luggage as well as on cars entering airports, and screening of airport workers are being tightened under the security measures which came into force on November 24.
The ministry spokesperson J.A. Barata said that this move came after recent terror attacks and threats in several countries.
He also shared that a Jakarta airport had received a threat in recent days, but declined to give details about it.
Earlier, anti-terror police and military officers were deployed to the main airport serving Jakarta as a security measure after the Paris attacks, which killed 130 people.
Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, suffered several major bomb attacks conducted by terrorists between 2000 and 2009, but government crackdowns have weakened the most dangerous extremist networks.
