Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand (IMT) agreed to intensify cooperation in tourism, transport, human resources and infrastructure projects at a ministerial meeting of the IMT Growth Triangle in Indonesia on September 29.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economy Darmin Nasution said that the cooperation agreements are to support integration of growth of the three neighboring countries and increase investment in the IMT-GT area.

By cooperating in tourism development, the countries will adopt tourism strategic framework as a reference to promote cross border tourism and make IMT-GT as a sustainable and competitive tourist destination, he said.

In the transport sector, the three countries will cooperate in improving trade border gate system and cross-border infrastructure to facilitate export-import activities.

Meanwhile, under the cooperation programme in human resources development, inter-university cooperation has been formed in the IMT-GT area through the UNINET Charter, including innovative research and technology.

The countries also agreed to implement connectivity projects including airports, seaports, roads, bridges and railway, he added.

At the meeting, delegates agreed that the secretariat of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle will be located in Pangkalpinang, the capital of Bangka Belitung province of Indonesia.
