Interpol confirmed on March 9 that at least two passports, one Austrian and one Italian, recorded in its Stolen and Lost Travel Documents database were used by passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight.
The passports were added to the database after being stolen in Thailand in 2012 and 2013.
As no country contacted Interpol regarding these two stolen passports between when they were added to Interpol's database and the departure of Flight MH370, Interpol is unable to determine on how many other occasions these passports were used to board flights or cross borders.
While checking the documents used on the flight, Interpol also discovered other suspicious passports.
Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble said his agency would provide all available resources to help authorities in Malaysia and other involved countries discover what happened to the missing jetliner.
The agency is currently in contact with its National Central Bureaus in the involved countries to determine the real identities of the passengers who used these stolen passports to board the missing flight.
Meanwhile, the search continues for the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 aircraft that went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Beijing, China on March 8. Six countries have sent aircraft and ships to join in the search.
