Japan will host a foreign ministers meeting with China and South Korea in March before an expected trilateral summit, according to reports.Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara has proposed to his Chinese and South Korean counterparts that Tokyo host the talks in Kyoto on March 19-20, Kyodo News and Jiji Press said, citing unnamed government sources.
Japan is the host for this year's annual trilateral summit with the two Asian neighbours, with the place and date yet to be fixed.
Regional tensions due to North Korea's military provocation and stalled disarmament talks are expected to be the main subjects during the foreign ministers meeting with Kim Sung-Hwan and China's Yang Jiechi, Kyodo said.
Tokyo expects the summit meeting including Prime Minister Naoto Kan, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak to take place around June, Kyodo said.
