Laos, Cambodia discuss security matters

An annual bilateral meeting between the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia was held on January 17 in the Lao capital of Vientiane, aiming to discuss security issues between the two countries.

The meeting was co-chaired by Somkeo Silavong, Minister of Public Security of Laos and Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Cambodia.

According to the Lao News Agency (KPL), the two sides briefed each other about progress in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding the two ministries signed in 2017 and their cooperation on keeping peace and order along the common border of the two countries, efforts in drug control and inspection, anti-human trafficking efforts, immigration facilitation and visit exchange.

They showed satisfaction with the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on drug inspection and control cooperation by relevant sectors of the two countries at both central and provincial levels, said the KPL.

The two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia for 2018.
