aMalaysia and India signed six memoranda of understanding on bilateral cooperation in New Delhi, India, on April 1, according to Malaysian media.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is on a visit to India, and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Malaysian media said among these pacts are proposals to establish a channel to transfer surplus urea from Malaysia to India, and to build a 2-billion-USD urea and ammonia manufacturing plant in Malaysia, which is capable of supplying 2.5 million tonnes per annum for the Indian market.

The sides also agreed on cooperation in technology, aviation services, education and palm oil production.

A joint statement released after a meeting between the two PMs indicated their agreement in financial collaboration and India’s appreciation of Malaysia’s visa waiver programme for Indian nationals between now and March 2018.

The leaders also stressed their commitments to combating terrorism together, agreeing that their fight targets not only terrorists and their network but also countries that support terrorism.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is in a six-day visit to India, which began on March 30, in conjunction with the celebration of 60-year bilateral relations. This is his third visit to the country since taking office in 2009.
