Mexican media spotlights Vietnamese top legislator’s upcoming visit to Latin America

Prestigious newspapers in Mexico have highlighted the significance of Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s official visits to Cuba, Argentina and Uruguay, which are scheduled to take place from April 18-28.

La Jornada, Mexico's leading left-wing newspaper, on April 16, commented that the visit of the Vietnamese top legislator demonstrates Vietnam's commitment to strengthen multi-faceted relations with the three countries, which is part of not only parliamentary diplomacy but also Vietnam's foreign policy.

The Spanish-language daily said that the traditional and friendly relationship between Vietnam and Latin American countries stems from the similarities in their history of national liberation struggle.

It noted that the visit coincides with the commemoration of several important events, such as the 60th founding anniversary of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam, the 50 years of the first visit to Vietnam of Commander-in-chief of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam - Argentina diplomatic ties, and the 30 years since Vietnam and Uruguay established diplomatic ties.

Meanwhile, Regeneración - the newspaper of the ruling Morena Party, reviewed the history of Vietnam’s national liberation struggle as well as the country’s outstanding achievements in its renewal (Doi moi) and socio-economic development process.

In its article on April 16, Regeneración emphasised that following Vietnam's resounding victory for independence and reunification in 1975, the country is considered a lighthouse that illuminates all five continents.

The success of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, impressive economic growth, and its increasingly prominent regional and international role have helped Vietnam become a reference model for all those who are fighting for a better world, it stressed.

Mentioning the prominent role of the Vietnamese NA, Voces Del Periodista - an academic forum of Mexican journalists, said that the 15th NA of Vietnam (2021-2026) led by Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has created good impressions, showing characteristics of an innovative and effective parliamentary model in performing its functions and duties.

The legislature has taken a series of effective measures, including decisive policies to successfully prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic, and promote socio-economic recovery and development, it said.

The legislative body has attached great importance to promoting and expanding both bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations, and accompanying the Government to strengthen "vaccine diplomacy", helping Vietnam succeed with its strategy, the newspaper noted.

It affirmed that as a companion of the state's foreign policy and people-to-people diplomacy, the NA’s diplomatic activities have helped the Vietnamese Government promote regional linkages and strengthen international cooperation in addressing regional and global issues.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will pay official visits to Cuba, Argentina and Uruguay from April 18 – 28, at the invitation of President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina Cecilia Moreau, and Speaker of the Senate of Uruguay Beatriz Argimon Cedeira, respectively./.
