The Myanmar Government and eight ethnic armed groups completed a draft framework for holding political dialogue as part of the implementation of the National Ceasefire Accord (NCA), according to Xinhua News on December 6.
The first round of dialogue is scheduled to start before January 14, 2016 in accordance with the NCA’s timeline.
UPDJC is comprised of more than 10 representatives from the Government, ethnic armed groups and political parties, including Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD), the current ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), the Arakan National Party (ANP) and the Shan National League for Democracy (SNLD).
Myanmar’s Government signed its long-awaited NCA with eight out of 15 rebel forces on October 15 and is making efforts to finalise the NCA’s signing with the remaining groups to wrap up the peace process.
