Nestle recalls certain kind of candy over peanut risk

Nestle USA has announced a voluntary recall of some candy product that may contain undeclared peanuts, the CBS reported on Monday.

The recall involves Raisinets Fun Size bags which may pose a health threat to consumers with allergic conditions, the report said.

The recall applies to packages with a production code of 02015748 and UPC number of 2800010255, the report quoted a Nestle statement as saying.

The statement said the company was issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution.

"People who have allergies or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," according to the statement.

The affected product was distributed only in the U.S. to Target, Shop Rite and Don Quixote retail stores, according to Nestle, which reported that three complaints have been received to date.

While the candy bags are labeled with a precautionary statement "made on equipment that also processes peanuts," the product should not, but may contain some peanuts that are not declared on the label, according to the company.

Consumers who are allergic to peanuts and who have purchased the recalled products should contact Nestle Consumer Services directly at 1-800-478-5670 for a full refund and should discard any remaining packages, the statement said.

Peanut allergy usually is a severe one, and reactions can range from hives to death, accounting to a majority of fatal or near fatal anaphylactic reaction in the U.S., according to PeanutAllergy.com
