Provinces across Thailand implement plans to fight drought

Trat provincial authorities are requesting assistance from local administrative organisations to inspect water levels in their respective area so that water management plans can be arranged.

The province’s Deputy Governor Payakphan Phokaew along with officials from related agencies have arranged a meeting to resolve drought problems in 2015. Upon mutual agreement, the authorities have decided to set up a Special Centre for Drought Prevention and Mitigation to assist drought victims.

The governor has also requested administrative personnel to inspect water levels and come up with water management plans, as well as provide water containers and water pumps to assist the locals.

Meanwhile, soldiers in Mae Hong Son province are installing water tanks in rural villages to alleviate a water shortage.

Soldiers from the 36th Mobile Development Unit in Mae Hong Son province are surveying community areas in Mae La Noi, Mae Sariang, and Sop Moei districts. The officers would be installing at least 2 water tanks per village with a storage capacity of 3,000 liters across 17 villages in a move to tackle water shortages during the drought season.

Elsewhere in Loei Province, the drought season has arrived earlier than in the past years, causing the Loei River to dry up. The water level across small and medium-sized reservoirs now only remains at 10 percent of their total capacities, prompting authorities to stop releasing irrigation water to farmland.
