Singapore, Malaysia sign bilateral transport agreement

Singapore and Malaysia on January 16 signed a bilateral agreement on the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link), which will connect the city-state and Malaysia's city of Johor Bahru upon its completion in 2024.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the eighth Singapore-Malaysia Leaders' Retreat.

The project, which was first mentioned in 2010, is expected to connect public transport between Johor Baru and Singapore.

According to the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, the RTS Link will be capable of carrying up to 10,000 passengers per hour per trip.

Within the framework of the visit, on January 15, PM Najib Razak and his Singaporean counterpart attended a ceremony to inaugurate two joint projects of Marina One and Duo in South Marina and Phir-Rochor of Singapore with total investment of 33 billion ringgit (about 8.3 billion USD).

The two projects are invested by Khazanah Nasional Bhd OF Malaysia and Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd of Singapore with respective capital contribution of 60 percent and 40 percent. They were implemented by Singapore-based M S Pte Ltd.
