Sovereignty steles in Truong Sa Archipelago recognized as national monuments

Two of Vietnam's sovereignty steles on the islands of Nam Yet and Song Tu Tay, built by the Republic of Vietnam in 1956, have been honored as national monuments.

On Tuesday, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province received the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism about the recognition of the two sovereignty steles on Song Tu Tay Island of Song Tu Tay commune and Nam Yet Island of Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province, as national relics.

These steles were stationed by the Republic of Vietnam in 1956, with the following content: "The Truong Sa Archipelago (Spratly Islands) belongs to the province of Phuoc Tuy. The military mission paid a field visit to the archipelago on August 22, 1956 under the guidance of the Vietnam Navy".

The steles are evidence of significant value in affirming Vietnam's sovereignty in the Spratly Islands. They were previously ranked as provincial monuments in 2011.

This May, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also recognized the "No number vessel - C235” in Hon Heo military base in Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa province as a national historical-cultural relic sites, bringing the total number of national historical - cultural relic sites in Khanh Hoa province to 15.
