Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said that he has paved an easy path for the next government during a televised public speech on August 4.
Abhisit, who will officially leave his post on August 5, asked all Thai people not to worry about the transitional period from the Democrat-led government to fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra's Pheu Thai-led government as his government has "solved several problems to a satisfied degree."
"I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the Thai people that during this transitional period, my government is doing everything to ensure a smooth hand-over," the caretaker prime minister said.
On financial and economic issues, Abhisit said the country's financial status is "very stable and sound."
He said because of his government performance in the past two years, the country's foreign reserves now stand at US$180 billion, the 13th largest foreign reserves in the world.
"This is another good financial foundation upon which the new government can base their financial policies," said Abhisit, the 27th Prime Minister of Thailand.
He said under his administration Thailand's unemployment rate reaches a historic low.
"All this is a guarantee that the new government will have flexibility, financial and fiscal tools and mechanisms that can be utilized to address various economic situations in an efficient and appropriate manner," he said.
Regarding international relations, he said it is clear that the international community has "more confidence in our country" partly because Thailand has a peaceful general election on July 3.
Abhisit also said he hoped the new government would work to promote reconciliation and deal with conflict through the parliamentary process.
"I hope that what I have done will provide a firm foundation upon which the incoming government can continue to work in order to bring happiness and prosperity to us all."
Yingluck Shinawatra, 44, Thaksin's sister and Pheu Thai PM candidate, is expected to be elected the 28th Prime Minister and the first woman Prime Minister of Thailand, while the Democrat Party is expected to be the main opposition party.
