Thai new PM pledges to focus on stimulating the economy

Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said on September 7 that her new government will seek to stimulate the economy "right away" and will continue with the policies of former PM Srettha Thavisin.

Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra speaks at a press conference after a special cabinet meeting on September 7

She held a special cabinet meeting earlier in the day to prepare policies that will be delivered at a two-day meeting of the parliament on September 10-11 that will mark the formal beginning of her administration.

She said the government will mainly continue the policies of her predecessor with some adjustments, including tackling issues such as debt restructuring, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises as well as boosting the agricultural and tourism sectors.

Speaking at the first press conference since her cabinet was sworn in by King Maha Vajiralongkorn a day earlier, Paetongtarn their work will continue from Srettha's government, particularly in stimulating the economy

Paetongtarn was elected Prime Minister by the Thai House of Representatives last month after Srettha was removed from office by the Constitutional Court over ethical violations./.
