More than 40 percent of Thai people, polled by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), said the local economy has made no or little improvement from 2015.

The NIDA conducted a survey on public opinions about Thailand’s economic situation in 2016 between December 13 and 15. It questioned 1,255 people aged 18 and over from all walks of life across the country.

About 16.65 percent of participants said the economy was even worse than last, whereas 28.69 percent noticed it had improved to some extent.

The government's cash handout policy for low-income earners at the end of the year was rated as suitable by 42.15 percent of the respondents, while 37.21 percent called it an unsustainable measure. Some 21.04 percent said the policy would help stimulate the economy, facing the opposite opinion from the other 10.12 percent of polled people.

Previously, Thai economic experts and managers expected the economy to grow between 3 and 3.3 percent this year and the following year.
