Thailand urges public to follow ‘Five Don’ts’ for safer New Year

The Royal Thai Police (RTP) has urged the public to avoid five risky behaviours during New Year celebrations.

RTP deputy spokesman Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepor said that to ensure public safety and avoid lawbreaking, the police urge people to observe 5 Don'ts for New Year”, including don't drive drunk, don't fire guns, don't launch lanterns in restricted areas, don't fall for scams, and don’t forget to lock up.

Siriwat emphasised the importance of these measures for a safe holiday. He called on people to avoid excessive drinking, which could lead to traffic accidents or violent behaviour. Citizens were also reminded not to release lanterns near airports or prohibited zones to prevent accidents or fires.

The Thai police warned against scams, including individuals impersonating officials to solicit money transfers, unusually low-priced goods, malicious links, and online gambling invitations. Citizens were also reminded to lock their homes and vehicles and safeguard valuables while traveling during the holiday season.

Beyond the “5 Don’ts”, the public were encouraged to report crimes or seek assistance via the 191 hotline or by visiting local police stations./.
