Vietnamese islands in our hearts

This is the name of a young generation’s activity of universalizing Vietnamese antique maps among schools conducted by Thuan An town Youth Union in coordination with Education and Training Bureau in order to help pupils to understand national island’s sovereignty.

Thanks to the program “Vietnamese islands in our hearts”, many maps relating Parcel and Spratly archipelagoes were hung in the schoolyard, pupils of Phan Chu Trinh elementary school can contemplate and discuss these ones. Du Ngoc Kim Khanh, who is a pupil of class 5/1, said: “Owing to these maps, I and my friends can learn more about our archipelagoes. Since then, I am more interested in history, love our motherland”.

“Vietnamese islands in our hearts” activity was installed at many schools.

Chief of Phan Chu Trinh school’s Young Pioneer Organization Mr. Dang Quyen said: “Dissemination of Vietnamese – Chinese maps and documents relating to Vietnamese island’s sovereignty have helped pupils being aware of national island. Then patriotism, national pride can be aroused and strengthened”.

According to Mr .Quyen, pupils of his school engaged enthusiastically in activities supporting soldiers in border areas. They also saved money from breakfasts, snacks to send VND3mln to soldiers of 783 Border post in Dak O commune, Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province.

Thuan An town Young Pioneer Council’s Chairman Ngoc Tien Dat said, the program of this activity was planned in early June. Then town Youth Union cooperated with Department of Information and Communications to print and install maps in 31 local schools. Additionally, Education and Training Bureau directed history teachers to introduce maps and location of Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes in extracurricular activities. Simultaneously, many contests about national islands have been organized for pupils in town.

 Accrording to Mr. Dat, this map exhibition was also to celebrate the 100^th Ly Tu Trong’s birthday (20^th October 1914 – 20^th October 2014) and the 58^th Vietnamese Youth Traditional Day (15^th October 1956 – 15^th October 2014).

“Through this activity, we want to promote “We love national islands” movement, help youngsters knowing about national island’s sovereignty as well as false information from China in terms of South China Sea dispute. Thereby, we want to affirm, protect the national island’s sovereignty, and preserve a peaceful, stable environment for national development and international integration”, said Mr. Dat.
