The Russian Science and Culture Centre in Hanoi has announced Vietnamese readers can access online books of Russia-based Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library and e-book provider LitRes free of charge at the centre.

The announcement was made at an event celebrating World Poetry Day (March 21), which took place in the capital city on March 23.

Speaking at the event, Minister-Counsellor at the Russian Embassy Vadim Vladimirovich Bublicov thanked Vietnamese translators for their hard-working and professional performance, resulting in the publication of more than 30 classic Russian literary works in Vietnamese since 2012.

Of the books, Pushkin's Fairy Tales, Ugryum River by Vyacheslav Shishkov, and poetry collections of S.A. Esenin, Anna Akhmatova and Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva were presented at the event.

Russian books introduced to Vietnamese readers have contributed to strengthening the two nations’ culture – language connection, the diplomat said.

He said he believes the opening of the online book sources for Vietnamese, which contain a massive amount of knowledge on Russian history, language, and relations with other countries, will foster bilateral cooperation and people-to-people diplomacy.

Director of the Russian Science and Culture Centre Natalia Valerievna Shafinskaya said the free access to the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library offers an official information channel on Russia to Vietnamese.

As part of the event, Nguyen Thuy Anh, who won a Russian award for the best translation of literary works, hosted a talk show on Russian children books she has translated thus far.
