Winter storm hits Chicago, 1,000 flights canceled

A winter storm brought snow and bone-chilling wind to Chicago Sunday morning, causing more than 1, 000 flights to be canceled, according to local media.

The National Weather Service said on its website that a winter storm warning remains in effect until midnight Monday for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, and temperature are going to plunge while strong wind moving through after snow tapers off this afternoon.

 Flights at the O'Hare International Airport were delayed for up to 45 minutes, more than 900 flights have been canceled and more might be cancelled more throughout the day, according to the city Department of Aviation.

Midway Airport is experiencing flight delays of up to 30 minutes. Airlines have canceled over 250 flights, and anticipate more cancellations.

 Local police said that they had no major problems like road closures or major accidents with injuries.

 Up to 8 inches of Snow is expected to continue falling through Sunday in Chicago, which might be the biggest storm so far this winter, according to local meteorologist. And winds may hit as high as 55 miles per hour this morning, which may cause trouble for crews to keep roads clear.

 The temperature may drop 5 degrees Fahrenheit Sunday night, thanks to the combination of high wind and low temperature.
