NA approves 11 draft laws, 9 resolutions in ninth session

National Assembly deputies adopted 11 draft laws and nine resolutions during their 30-day sitting at the 13th legislature’s ninth session, announced Head of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc.

Chairing an international press conference immediately after the ninth session closed on June 26, Phuc said that the early promulgation of the draft laws following the agenda will contribute to enhancing Vietnam’s market economic institutions and ensuring the unity and harmony of the legal system so as to meet national development requirements.

The NA’s approval of the important laws also helps improve the political system, increasing the power of the State apparatus from central to grassroots levels and the operation efficiency of the legislature and the People’s Councils at all levels, he stated.

He pointed to several notable resolutions, including the one on lump-sum social insurance payments for workers and another on the Long Thanh International Airport.

At this session, lawmakers also exchanged opinions on 15 important draft laws which directly relate to human rights, the rights of citizens and operations of State-owned agencies, he added.

The official told the media that a survey of the Public Opinion Research Institute under the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education showed that the ninth session’s agenda and contents received the attention and satisfaction of the public.

Regarding reporters’ queries on the legislative body’s response to China’s large-scale construction on reef islands on Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, which threatens individual livelihoods as well as peace, stability and aviation and navigation freedom in the East Sea, Phuc said that the NA will keep a close watch on the issue and make official statements when necessary.

He shared that in many press conferences, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson continually reaffirmed Vietnam’s point of view that China’s construction on the reef islands is illegal and does not change the fact that Vietnam holds full legal foundations and historical evidence proving its sovereignty over the archipelago.

Mentioning the Long Thanh International Airport project, he made it clear that the NA considers it an important project that is meaningful to the nation’s socio-economic development.
