The provincial People's Committee has issued a decision to terminate the operation of animal and animal products checkpoints in the province. Accordingly, from 31 Dec 2017 the operation of 11/12 checkpoints animal and animal products in the province will be terminated; only animal quarantine stations, traffic hub in Vinh Phu ward, Thuan An town is maintained at the request of Department of Animal Health. Provincial Agriculture and Rural Development Department assumes the prime responsibility, and collaborates with Department of Home Affairs in settling 47 officials at the 11 quarantine checkpoints after the termination under regulations.
Tran Ha Hai, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Animal Health, Veterinary and Aquatic Resources, said that the province had 12 checkpoints under the epidemic safety project, but these stations have not been highly effective. According to the Veterinary Law (effective from July 1, 2017) and some circulars guiding the prevention of land-based diseases, quarantine of animals and animal products, animal quarantine stations are allowed to exist under the direction of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Therefore, the termination of some animal quarantine points in the province is appropriate.
