A ceremony to launch the 12th National Week on Occupational Safety, Hygiene and Prevention of Fires Explosions (OSH-PFE) was held yesterday, March 23, in the southern province of Binh Duong. More than 700 representatives from sectors, departments, businesses, workers and students at vocational schools in the province attended the ceremony.
Huynh Thi Hong Thu, deputy head of provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, who is also deputy head of the provincial Steering Board of the 12th National Week on OSH-PFE said that the annual National Weeks on OSH-PFE over time helped employers and employees raise their awareness and responsibility in ensuring OSH-PFE. But, there were still shortcomings for change. The whole province last year saw 23 serious occupational accidents, claiming the lives of 24 people and 46 fires, injuring 3 people with total losses of VND84.7bln, increasing by VND36.1bln against 2008. Province-based businesses also did not pay proper attention to improvement of labor hygiene conditions.
Addressing the ceremony, provincial vice-chairman Nguyen Van Hiep suggested sectors and businesses to work harder on OSH-PFE; promote dissemination about role-models in the work; mentioned shortcomings leading to fires, explosions or working environment pollution…
