As of now, a program on health cooperation between the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s IL Woong Cleft Lip and Palace Foundation and provincial General Hospital has been maintained within 25 years. The significant program has brought happy smiles to hundreds of patients with facial deformities.
Program of smiles
Since 1995, the RoK Surgical Society has organized delegations to realize the significant program in Binh Duong province at year-end. Nguyen Thi Du, the mother of Do Manh Hung, a 15-year old patient said that her child has just got a free surgery from the delegation. She hopes that his life will be more joyful and self-confident.

Continuing being maintained
Doctor Van Quang Tan, Director of provincial General Hospital said that during the past 25 years, the program provided free surgeries for 634 patients. In 2019 alone, there were 35 patients enjoying free surgeries from the program. All got good recovery after these surgeries. They and their relatives felt very happy and were moved with the meaningful program.
It is known that along with free surgeries, the delegation donated medical equipment to provincial General Hospital, contributing to better serving people’s demand for medical examination and treatment. During the past 25 years, the Rok Surgical Society offered a lot of medical equipment worth US$220,000 to the hospital.
According to Mr.Tan, provincial General Hospital’s medical staff got more precious experience together with new techniques in odonto, maxillo and facial surgery from the delegation after two years of cooperation between the two units. Members of the delegations said that they were very happy because receiving enthusiastic support from provincial People’s Committee, Department of Health and colleagues at provincial General Hospital. Prof.Myung Jin Kim, Chairman of the RoK ’s IL Woong Cleft Lip and Palace Foundation said that along with the efforts by the local government and healthcare sector, the delegation also got good coordination from patients and their relatives. He and his delegation have always wanted that all patients will soon recover after enjoying free surgeries from the delegation in order to have self-confidence and faith in life.
Doctor Huynh Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Health said that the program has contributed to bringing the joy to people with facial deformities while tightening friendship, cooperation between Vietnam and RoK.
