Over 5,000 people are expected to participate in a blood donation program, “Chao Xuan Hong 2011” (Greeting Red Spring 2011) in Hanoi to collect some 2,000 units of blood and deal with a shortage of blood during the lunar New Year.
The program will be held by Vietnam Red Cross and the national steering committee on blood donations.
Many other activities will also be organized during the program, including the launching of communications on blood donations, traditional games and art performances, along with the participation of humanitarian ambassadors from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), domestic singers and bands and 5,000 volunteers.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan from the Vietnam Red Cross, over 1,500 volunteers are calling on people to donate blood. The organizing committee has organized hundreds of vehicles to carry blood donators to join the program.
