By 2015, 85% of rural residents, and all kindergartens, schools and communal health centers will have access to a safe, clean water supply.
This is a statement from the national target program on rural water supply and sanitation in the 2012 – 2015 period, which was recently approved by the Prime Minister.
According to the program, the central State budget will provide 90% of the investment for public water supply projects in disadvantaged, island and border communes, ethnic minority villages, and mountainous and coastal areas.
The State budget will also allocate 60% of the funds for such projects in delta communes and 75% for those in other communes.
The total investment for the program is estimated at almost VND27.6 trillion (USD1.32 million).
Of this amount, almost VND19.8 trillion will be spent on the project to ensure rural water supplies, nearly VND6 trillion will be spent on the rural environment sanitation project and about VND1.9 trillion on other associated works.
