Thu Dau Mot City with a long 300-year history of construction and development is changing its face. From a small urban area with insufficient infrastructure, people's material and spiritual life was difficult. But with great efforts, the city has continuously developed in both width and depth and is now recognized by the government as a class-1 urban area. This result was brought about by the unity between Party, government and people of the city in performing the campaign "Building cultural - civilized urban lifestyle".

Building a green city
Along main streets such as Binh Duong Boulevard, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Pham Ngoc Thach, Huynh Van Luy... and in inner city, a green city is gradually created. At present, the city is implementing key transportation projects and is investing synchronously in urban infrastructure, such as housing, green parks, and cultural institutions. The city planted over 6,200 trees on 19 roads and in public parks of the city. Especially, in order to build a green city, the government put into use 30 parks in the center with open green areas so that all people can easily access, relax, and exercises. In addition, 14 wards planted trees on public lands in the area, encouraged people to plant and care for trees on empty lands.
In order to promote people's strength in this movement, the city encouraged every citizen and enterprise to participate in the construction of alleys according to "the State and people working together", increasing the rate of concrete roads by 71.13% and roads with public lighting system by 89.6%. In addition, the plan for socialization of street decoration, installation of public lighting system in alleys was also accelerated by the city. Thanks to the good mass mobilization, people in the city voluntarily dismantled construction works encroaching sidewalks, removed illegal billboards, banners to return an airy, green, clean face of the city.
Apart from socio-economic development, the city pays special attention to improving the quality of environmental sanitation. In recent years, the city has implemented plans to improve the quality, efficiency of collection, transportation and treatment of solid waste; Piloted the classification of solid waste at its source in Hiep An Ward; Installed 35 decorative garbage cans at central parks in Phu Cuong Ward and 46 garbage cans to decorate main roads and some inner roads. 100% quarters set up "self-management environmental groups". Many written guidelines, plans for environmental sanitation were issued. One example was documents specifying locations and time of waste disposal/collection, and transport. This schedule is widely announced to all people in the city. To implement this schedule seriously, the city established 14 supervisory teams with 72 members in quarters and residential areas. These supervisory teams checked the actual organization and implementation, promoted a cultural lifestyle, urban civilization, formed groups, took pictures or clips of violations for later warning. Then, in meetings of wards, the team reported monitoring results, emphasized problems and limitations to overcome.
Determination to fulfill tasks
To carry out the project of organizing "Building a cultural-civilized lifestyle", the city mobilized the whole political system from city to grassroots to lead, carry out the projects, integrated the campaign with economic, cultural, social, defense and security development tasks. Steering Committee of the city meets once a month to monitor and urge the implementation of the campaign. Members of the Steering Committee hold meeting twice a month to urge, guide, and keep contact with areas and sectors to monitor situation and results of the project implementation.
In order to heighten the project effectiveness, the Steering Committee also added contents and criteria of the implementation of cultural lifestyle and urban civilization to assessment criteria of Party organizations’ quality, cultural title’s reorganization of quarters, quarters, lodging houses, and agencies. Following the guideline "smart public relations, civilized urban", the city also enhanced propagation. Therefore, each party member, public servant, official, and people of all strata is more responsible for building Thu Dau Mot city into a "civilized - rich, beautiful - modern city".
