A warm Tet away from home

The heart-warming parties, the giving away gifts, and activities of culture and sports have been very encouraging to workers in Binh Duong Province, relieving their homesickness.

A large number of worker families have enjoyed Tet Holiday activities at Center for Culture, Information and Sports in Ben Cat Town on the second day of Tet Holiday 2016

Tet Holiday has been the good occasion for expatriates to reunion; however, many reasons including the cost insufficiency have made such occasions so precious for workers in hardship. Understanding such sentiment, Ben Cat Town Center for Culture, Information and Sports coordinated with Ben Cat Town Youth’s League to organize various activities of culture, arts, and sports for workers locally. Of the activities, the art performances and firework show on lunar New Year eve, dances of unicorn-lion-dragon, singing show, karaoke with prizes, folklore games, etc. on the second, third, and fourth days of lunar New Year have been of much attraction.

Statistically, provincial Labor Union reported that 150,000 workers stayed in Binh Duong Province for Tet Holiday 2016. Taking care of them, the province has offered 7,000 gifts of VND 500,000 each; the grassroots and enterprises have offered about VND 130 billion to 400,000 workers and 2,000 gifts financed by budget extraction to the workers.

The Tet celebration of workers in local wards with populated workers has been greatly animated. At Phu Loi Ward in Thu Dau Mot City, the immigrant workers have attended the traditional sticky rice square cake making contest, house decoration and flower arrangement during Tet and fashion contest. Besides, the association of youths in the ward has given 43 gifts to workers of harsh circumstances staying in Binh Duong Province for Tet Holiday; each gift is worth VND 200,000. Dinh Thi Dao, a worker of Phat Trien Co. Ltd. at Quarter 9 of Phu Loi Ward informed that she had been away from Thanh Hoa Province for 4 years during Tet holidays.

“I miss my home a lot but I had to stay for Tet holidays. However, without returning home for Tet holidays, I had enjoyed activities welcoming Tet Holiday right at my accommodation and locality. Other recreational activities or gifts have been given to us to create Tet holidays of warmth for immigrant workers,” said Dao.

On days near Tet Holiday, the accommodation places of immigrant workers have been with joy and laughter. The parties and songs have warmed up Tet welcome in Binh Duong Province. Contributing to the springtime enjoyment of workers in harsh circumstances, hostel owners have coordinated with associations of youths to organize Tet Holiday welcoming parties for workers.

Truong Thi Bich Hanh, the Deputy Chair of Provincial Labor Union, informed that all-level unions have taken care of workers’ families facing difficulties and hardship barring them from returning home for Tet. Aside from meaningful gifts, Binh Duong Provincial Labor Union has coordinated with provincial Troupe of Tradition Dances and Songs and Center for Culture and Movies to organize 25 evenings of entertainment for workers in localities and industrial zones. Besides, hostel owners have reduced accommodation prices during the months of Tet Holiday and offered gifts to workers or organized spring celebration for those immigrant workers staying for Tet Holiday. As for enterprises, the production activities during Tet Holiday have been rightfully arranged to balance their work and enjoyment. After Tet Holiday, those workers in need of returning home for Tet Holiday will be offered time for home returning.

Workers staying in Binh Duong Province for Tet Holiday have been sentimental as their contributions have paid off and appraised by local authorities and enterprises. thereon, they are confident enough to choose their place of settlement and maintain labor endeavor to keep Binh Duong Province on development track.
