A young doctor to be dedicated to his occupation

At the scientific, technological and technical seminar of provincial health sector in 2015, Dr. Nguyen Tien Luc (image), on behalf of his group, presented their research “Treating inguinal hernia by endoscopic TEP”. He has dedicated himself to this research while working at provincial General Hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Tien Luc graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 2006. Continuing professional training, he become specialist level 1 in 2011. Since December 2012, he has worked for provincial General Hospital. After an appreciated research in 2014, this year, he and his colleagues, Dr. Duong The Anh and Dr. Do Thi Oanh, have undertaken the research  “Treating inguinal hernia by endoscopic TEP”. This research has been applied and brought benefits to patients.

Dr. Nguyen Tien Luc said, the research was conducted with the inguinal hernia treatment for 50 patients with an average age of 38 by endoscopic TEP. The average number of treatment days was 2.5, and there have not seen cases of recurrence after 16 months. Inguinal hernia is a common surgical pathology; surgical approach using artificial graft has replaced almost completely former surgical autologous graft methods, such as: Bassini, Shouldice, McVay... Inguinal hernia surgery has now 2 approaches: laparoscopic (TAPP) and endoscopic (TEP) treatment. TEP technique is more popular, because TAPP has the higher risk of injury and abdominal adhesion.

“At hospitals of provincial level, this is still a new approach. Thus we conducted this research to evaluate initial results and effectiveness of endoscopic (TEP) inguinal hernia treatment at provincial General Hospital. With this treatment, the average length of hospital stay is 2.46 days (1-5 days). Average recovery time after surgery is 11.67 hours (8-24 hours)”, said Dr. Luc.

At the seminar, “Treating inguinal hernia by endoscopic TEP” research was highly assessed, because of its safety, effectiveness, and low complication.
