Taking care of workers
Despite still facing many difficulties during the 9th term, the coordination and support of socio-political organizations, agencies, units and enterprises in the city together with the solidarity, efforts and high sense of responsibility of the cadres, trade unionists, workers, and laborers in the city with the attention and leadership of the Party committees and authorities at all levels have achieved great results in all aspects. The city's trade union has completed and exceeded the targets and tasks set out by the 9th Congress.
The work of representing, taking care of and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of employees is focused on implementing throughout, timely and increasingly practical, typically taking care of those affected by the epidemic and in unexpected difficult circumstances. Specifically, trade unions at all levels supported 21,073 union members with the amount of VND 12.7 billion; they gave 2 "Union shelters" to 2 members with difficult circumstances at an amount of more than VND 130 million. Besides, the grassroots trade union also organized myriad practical movements to take care of the material and spiritual life of workers, contributing to bringing a joyful, healthy and exciting atmosphere among workers, and strengthening solidarity in the trade union organization.
The city's trade unions have implemented regimes and policies for union members and employees, thereby providing timely support to 77 units and businesses with 21,812 union members and employees with a total amount of more than VND 47 billion. The Trade Union Fund presented over 2,000 gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, and participated in coordination to mobilize 135 lodging establishments to reduce or exempt rent for employees at a total amount of more than VND 825 million.
Propaganda and education are promoted and reformed to creating a ripple effect among employees. The patriotic emulations among employees were actively and widely organized, contributing to the fulfillment of the objectives and operational tasks of agencies, units and enterprises. Cultural, artistic and sports activities are maintained regularly, contributing to improving the cultural and spiritual life of employees.
Action towards the grassroots
At this congress, the delegates focused on discussing and recommending many solutions to renew the contents and mode of trade union activities on the basis of ensuring the comprehensive and absolute leadership of the Party, in accordance with the political system of the country. In which, many solutions to promote the role of trade unions in the political system have been proposed, especially the solutions for trade union activities to continue to strongly concentrate on the grassroots, taking the grassroots as the main area of operations and union members and employees as objects of mobilization and operational goals.
Along with that is a series of solutions to build a strong trade union organization to well perform its functions and tasks in the new situation and the role of a bridge, keeping the close relationship between the Party and State and the working class and laborers, contributing to building a modern and strong working class, which is the pioneer force in carrying out the task of rapid and sustainable development of the country.
The congress set specific targets, such as striving for at least 70% of enterprises and units with trade unions to be eligible to represent, negotiate and sign a collective labor agreement in accordance with the law; 75% or more grassroots trade unions participate with employers in promulgating and implementing grassroots democracy regulations; 70% of cases of union members who need advice and litigation on legitimate rights and interests will be represented by a trade union representative or supported by the trade union. Every year, each grassroots trade union averagely introduces one elite member to the Party for consideration, training and fostering for admission to the Party.
