Activities respond to the 2nd national road safety week

In May, provincial Traffic Safety Committee has mapped out and implemented a wide range of activities in response to the 2nd National Road Safety Week launched by the National Traffic Safety Committee.

The campaign aims to raise public awareness of traffic laws and ways to avoid accidents; create favorable conditions in traffic infrastructure that ensure traffic safety for pedestrians; encourage road users to give way to pedestrians; have no pedestrian deaths reported during the week; minimize the number of traffic accidents for pedestrians in 2013. The week will be effectively implemented across the province with a wide range of activities, including:

-Propaganda activities on the organization of the 2nd National Road Safety Week; traffic regulation for pedestrians; regulations giving way to pedestrians; reasons and consequences of traffic accidents to pedestrians; regulations on punishment for pedestrians. They will be implemented via the mass media and visual tools such as panels, posters…

-Improving traffic infrastructure with concrete actions such as upgrading traffic lights, pedestrian signs; clearing away the illegal use of pavements to create favorable conditions for pedestrians; strengthening lighting systems in areas for pedestrians; eliminate barriers for pedestrians; boost traffic safety in areas near schools.

-Intensifying guidance to pedestrians so that they well obey regulations when getting across streets and traffic signals; penalizing wrong pedestrians and road users who do not give way to pedestrians as stipulated; giving administrative punishment on the illegal use of pavements for pedestrians.

The 2nd National Road Safety Wee has been implemented by the province. Traffic Safety Committees at all levels have been ordered to send the reports on the results of the week to provincial Traffic Safety Committee before May 24, 2013.
