Provincial Youth Union in collaboration with provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Binh Duong Electricity Co., GS Vietnam Battery Co.Ltd., provincial Cultural House for Children, Volunteer Youth Club and Green Volunteer Club kicked off a program responding to the Earth Hour campaign 2016 on Nguyen Du street in TDM city on the evening of Mar.19. The program aimed to raise public awareness of climate change and energy saving to protect the environment.\

This is the sixth year Binh Duong has responded to the Earth Hour campaign. After nearly one week of propaganda, more than 1,000 Youth Union members gathered and took part in activities of the program such as painting their faces with the symbol of the Earth Hour, displaying recycled products…
With the youth ardour and awareness of environmental protection, the local Youth Union members together made dissemination of information about the Earth Hour campaign 2016 with the slogan of “Small actions-Big significance” to households, trade centers around Thu Dau Mot city; mobilized all people to switch off non-essential lights and electrical appliances in 60 minutes from 8:30 to 9:30. Many motorbike drivers were also proactive in turning off engines when waiting for 25 seconds before red lights at major crossroads in the province.
Activities responding to the Earth Hour campaign 2016 in the province took place very animatedly and impressive. Along with special art performances by provincial Cultural House for Children and other art troupes, the local youngsters had a chance to exchange with environmental ambassador-singer Trinh Thanh Binh. The program’s two most impressive actions were to float colored lanterns with the symbol of Earth Hour 60+ and launch the Earth Hour campaign 2016.
At 20:30pm, candles were burn at the main stage of the program, on some main streets, in State agencies, businesses and households, instead of electrical lights. In such warm atmosphere, all people seemed to be closer and together participated in interesting activities at the main stage of the program. “I love Vietnam” acoustic-style songs resounded along with flashmod dancing items performed by provincial Mang Non art troupe.
Also in the significant moment, environmental ambassador-singer Trinh Thang Binh shared his feeling when got involved in activities responding to the Earth Hour with Binh Duong’s youngsters. He also called on all people to save power and use resources of energy that are useful to the environment, helping the earth avoid disasters from climate change and bringing human beings a greener ad cleaner living environment.
Addressing the event, Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of provincial Youth Union said that the goal of the Earth Hour campaign 2016 was to mobilize organizations, individuals to save 50,000 kWh of power in 60 minutes. In a bid to combat climate change, Secretaries of the Youth Unions in the Mekong Delta, central and Highlands regions over the past days called on all people to be vanguard forces and then mobilize their relatives to get rid of harmful habits to protect the environment.
