Activities take care of laborers

Despite the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic, Di An city’s Labor Union Standing Committee in the first half of 2020 implemented numerous activities taking care of the lives of laborers, offering help to extremely difficult cases.

Timely, sufficient care

As of now, Di An city has had a total of 408 trade union locals with 43 laborers. According to Ninh Xuan Hien, Chairman of Di An city’s Labor Union, the number of laborers at province-based enterprises remain stable amid Covid-19 pandemic. Province-based enterprises have still maintained stability in production-business with the average income of laborers at VND4.5million-VND8million per person per month. Ninh Xuan Hien, Chairman of Di An city’s Labor Union offers gifts to workers with difficult circumstances

In early 2020, the city’s Labor Union also made efforts in taking care of laborers via such practical programs as organizing “Gathering in Tet holiday”, “Meal for Tet” programs; visiting and offering 1,320 gifts worth VND660million to civil servants and laborers who could not return home for Tet, 43 gifts worth VND21.5million to workers hit by work-related accidents and fatal illness; holding a “sentimental bus” program with 157 bus tickets offered with a total cost of VND153million; organizing 2 art performance nights for workers and locals in celebration of the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival…

During the social distancing period for Covid-19 prevention and control, the city’s Labor Union in collaboration with the People’s Committees, Trade Union locals, Fatherland Front Committees and mass organizations of wards directly mobilized 712 owners of the local lodging facilities with 9,493 rooms to reduce by 20%-50% of rent fees in April and May, equivalent to more than VND2billion for lodgers,

Social welfare programs implemented

In response to the Workers’Month and the Action Month on Labor Safety and Labor 2020, Di An city’s Labor Union visited and presented 42 gifts worth VND21million to workers with occupational diseases and 22 gifts worth VND22million to those with fatal diseases. Under provincial Labor Union’s Circular No.106/LDLD dated April 5, 2018 on further realizing social welfare programs for trade unionists and laborers, the city’s Labor Union also implemented Agape welfare packages with the registration of 548 trade unionists and a total value saved at VND109.6million. There were also 855 trade unionists registering to take part in Kim Sang rice welfare program with a total value saved at more than VND51.3trillion…

Mr.Hien said that along with taking care of material life, the city’s Labor Union created useful playgrounds for workers via competitions learning about 90 years of the Party Communist of Vietnam, the 110th anniversary of International Women’s Day, the 45th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification…; called for  female civil servants, trade unionists to respond to the Ao Dai Week; launched an emulation movement to set up achievements in celebration of the birth of Di An city among trade union locals; kicked off the Olympic Run Day for Public Health for the 2020-2030 period; organized football, badminton, volleyball tournaments…, absorbing hundreds of laborers.

In the first half of 2020, the city’s Labor Union established additional 16 trade union locals and admitted another 921 trade unionists. The whole city has so far had a total of 408 trade union locals with 40,390 trade unionists. The city’s Labor Union has also implemented a pilot model on the organization and operation of trade union locals in each business group, aiming to offer more help to laborers. The city’s authorities at all levels have created favorable conditions for the construction of a culture-labor center of 4,500 square meters in Di An ward’s Thong Nhat quarter.
