More than 10 years ago, after many years of suffering a unhappy life with a drunk husband, Nguyen Thi Truc Ha in quarter 7, Phu My ward, Thu Dau Mot city liberated herself by leaving Binh My, Cu Chi district of HCMC, her husband’s homeland to return Phu My, her native land to start a new living for herself and her children.
With the empty hands, she started making rice paper to earn a living. Enjoying a capital assistance from the ward Women Union, she managed to continue her job. Afterwards, she changed to make steamed rice cake, owing to the rising demand. Until now, she sells out about 100kg of steamed rice cake per day.
Enjoying a stable economic life, Ha has joined positively in local activities and has been head of quarter 7 Women’s sub-society and an official of the ward project of gathering female lodgers. “Making steamed rice cake brings a comfortable life for me and my children and helps me join in local activities, so I feel my position improved and I can communicate with outside world and feel more confident”, Ha shared.
Or, Truong Thi Tan in Binh Minh II quarter, Di An ward, Di An town has not only made wealth for herself but helped other sisters escape poverty by producing incense. By her efforts, she was honored by Vietnam Women Union.
Making up a launch for sisters
Doan Thi Dieu Hien, chairwoman of the provincial Women Union said that to improve women’s role and position in the society and and family, the provincial Women’s Union at all levels have held many significant activities to educate and mobilize sisters to raise awareness and qualification.
Notably, the movement of helping sisters develop homebased economy has helped poor sisters escape poverty. Since the start of this year, all level societies have mobilized rich women to help 9,500 poor sisters with the total value of nearly VND15bil, have implemented non-interest loan programs for needy sisters.
Movements of assisting women to build happy family, mobilizations of “building 5 nought, 3 clean family”, “building new rural areas” and “all people unite to build cultural life in residential areas” have been spurred.
Especially, implementing the project of “promulgating and educating about women’s morality and virtue in industrialization and modernization” in the period of 2010-2015, all level women unions have boosted promulgation and set up clubs to help sisters fell more confident.
From significant deeds, many sisters and families have escaped poverty. Possibly speaking, all level women unions have contributed greatly to local development.
