Efforts of poverty escape
In the end of 2011, Binh Duong has 3,314 poor households escaping poverty. From capital sources of the State, many needy families enjoy favorable conditions to escape poverty. Earlier, Cao Van Minh’s family, a poor household coming from the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, was a specially poor household in Hieu Liem commune, Tan Uyen district. But now, his family has escaped poverty, thanks to loans from the Bank for Social Policies.
Or, Nguyen Van Thanh in Chanh Phu Hoa commune, Ben Cat district has escaped poverty, thanks to animal husbandry. At present, he enjoys an average income of VND50mil per year. Thanh shared “My family has made efforts to become a rich household in the future”.
Many measures of poverty reduction set out
Ninh Quoc Binh, vice director of the provincial department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that implementing Resolution 11 on curbing inflation and ensure social welfare, the Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs sector has excelled welfare policies for the poor with the total expense of over VND121bil.
In addition, the department has assisted electric and water bills for the local poor households. 100% of local needy families enjoyed the assistance with the total value of VND2,938mil.
As for healthcare for the poor, the entire province has so far granted health insurance cards to 53,882 poor people with the total value of VND19.768bil. Moreover, implementing policy of supporting school fee for needy students, the locality has thus far exempted and reduced school fee for poor students with the total value of VND20.932bil. the locality has also offered loans for 870 poor households and mobilized to grant 377 hi-unity houses for the needy across the province.
The local program of poverty reduction has started a new period with many measures in conformity with the reality. However, the program remains shortcomings of unproper policies of health insurance support for the poor, poor investment in free vocational training for rural laborers and demobees and among others.
To excel the program, Binh Duong considers the program as a key action plan. Accordingly, the locality will spur assistance for the poor, apply many policies for orphans, lonely old people, AO victims… as well as help the disabled to integrate into the community…, said Ninh Quoc Binh.
