Many voluntary blood donation activities
Due to the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially during the social distancing period, VBD activities in the province were temporarily ceased. Thus, right after the social distancing period ended, VBD activities have been kicked back and taken place animatedly in many localities. To contributing to the scarce blood reserve, most localities in the province have been organizing activities for blood reception. At blood reception points, the number of participants were higher than expected. At some places, the organizers even could not receive blood, due to insufficient tools. This demonstrated the voluntary spirit of blood donors to save people.
Tong Xuan Giang, Vice Chairman of Provincial Red Cross, said, thanks to the attention and timely guidance of VBD Steering Committee at all levels, VBD movement has gained satisfactory results. The annual blood donation plan is issued soon, hence localities have been actively in communication, mobilization, and organization of blood reception. In addition to scheduled blood donation sessions, the localities also registered for sudden blood donations when their conditions allow. Therefore, the annual rate of blood reception of the province and localities constantly meet and exceed targets. Since Dec 2019, despite of the effect of the Covid-19, the whole province has received over 9,000 blood units, reaching nearly 50% of the year target.
To honor a beautiful act
Blood is considered as a special medicine that cannot be replaced. The blood reserve amount for emergency, treatment in medical facilities is always scarce. Therefore, the donated blood will bring opportunities, hopes for many patients. This is a noble action implying love and affection among human beings.
Many people after taking part in blood donation for the first time saw its benefits, which not only are good for their health but also help the sick people are in need of blood. Since then, they have participated in the blood donation several times and encouraged others to join this too. For example, Nguyen Thi Phong Lan living in Hiep Thanh ward, Thu Dau Mot City, has donated her blood 11 times from 2017 until now. Based on her experience and the meaning, benefits of blood donation, she also encouraged her family members, friends, neighbors to take part in the blood donation.
"Before the blood donation, my health condition is checked. After the blood donation, specialized units will continue to screened our blood before transfusing into patients. Therefore, if you unfortunately have a disease, this will be detected and reported promptly. Frequent blood donation is also a way to check your general health periodically. If you are unfortunately suffer a disease that needs blood transfusion, you may receive an equivalent amount to your donated blood. Moreover, blood donation also helps in saving the lives of patients", Ms. Lan.
Donating blood to save people deserves respect. Even though blood donors do not attach great importance to their benefits, VBD Steering Committees have timely encouraged, honored and praised blood donors. According to Mr. Giang, the commendation for blood donors have clear regulations and are carried out annually to encourage the spirit, motivate everyone to join VBD and to repeat this many times. People, who have donated blood 5 times, 10 times, 20 times, 30 times..., will be commended under the regulations.
According to Provincial Red Cross, this year's commendation for blood donors will be held at the end of Jun 2020; including 83 individuals, 21 families with 20 times of blood donation; 37 individuals, families 30 times; 4 individuals, 10 families 40 times, and 7 families 50 times. In particular this year, Binh Duong has Pham Van Chat (Phu Giao District), who has done blood donation 45 times, and was honored at national level.
If a patient is in a life-threatening circumstance and needs blood transfusion for treatment, he will perceive the significance of precious blood droplets. There is the sentence "Blood donors are all heroes". This is not only a slogan for propaganda but also the blood donation to save people is indeed an beautiful action of humanity.
