The ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) will work to support the concretisation of the development partnership between ASEAN and Italy, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Thi Bich Hue.

Hue, who is also Chairwoman of the ACR, made the statement while attending a discussion at the Italian Interagency Law-Enforcement College of Advanced Studies in Rome on September 25.

She hailed Italy’s initiative to host the Italy - ASEAN police chiefs’ high-level meeting scheduled on November 9-13, describing it as an initial step to carry out the development partnership with the ASEAN.

The ACR will coordinate with competent authorities in Italy to make preparation for the event, helping open a new chapter for both sides to boost cooperation in a more practical manner, she added.

Deputy Director General of Public Security in charge of coordination and planning of Police Forces, Prefect Alessandra Guidi said the police forces in the ASEAN and Italy have huge potential to cooperate, particularly when the world is facing new security challenges.

He moved to affirm the high-level meeting will serve as a pedal for both sides to enhance mutual understanding and coordination in transnational crimes prevention.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Elisabetta Belloni hailed the increasing role of the ASEAN in the regional and international security structure, while highlighting the development partnership between the two sides will make contributions to elevate their all-round cooperation, particularly politics - security, culture, sustainable development, and women’s empowerment, to a new high.

She expressed her hope that the ACR will give positive support to ensure the meeting’s success, creating impetus to carrying out the next initiatives in the Italy-ASEAN development partnership action plan./.
