Binh Duong actively takes care of ethnic minority people

Binh Duong has always paid attention to taking care of ethnic minority people. Thanks to this, the lives of ethnic minority people in the province have been improved considerably.

As of late 2014, the whole province had a total of 20 ethnic minorities with 4,499 households and 17,133 people. Among the ethnic minorities, the most populated are Hoa (Chinese), Khmer while the least populated is Ma. Most of them live together with Kinh people. Most Cham people live in Minh Hoa commune’s Hoa Loc hamlet in Dau Tieng district and Hoa people are mostly in TDM city and Thuan An town.

The majority of ethnic minority people in the province earn their living by jobs relating to home industrial production and trade-services. Some work as civil servants, teachers…According to statistics, the province is home to 838 well-off ethnic minority households, 950 average households, 56 and 71 poor and near-poor households and 30 in need of regular allowance. There are 293, 321 and 583 ethnic minority people with education at intermediate, college and university levels, respectively. Ethnic minority people herein have also actively got involved in activities organized by mass organizations and made great contributions to the local development.

The province has sped up law dissemination among ethnic minority people. Over the past time, many law dissemination classes were organized, absorbing more than 8,000 ethnic minority people. The province also held classes on cultivation and animal husbandry for ethnic minority people, helping them improve their lives.

Besides, the province has provided poor ethnic minority people with loans for production and other activities with total annual outstanding loans of VND1.71bln.

The province has also implemented many projects, programs on production support, rural road making and power grid development; opened vocational training classes; given support on materials and technique, helping ethnic minority people secure sustainable agricultural development. Noticeably, the province has sufficiently and exactly realized the Government’s policies for ethnic minority people. This has helped raise the quality of human resources among ethnic minority people.

Among ethnic minority people in the province, there are now 114 Party members, 532 Youth Union members, 16, 6 and 950 participating in People’s Councils, Fatherland Front Committees and mass organizations at all levels, respectively. So far, 86 ethnic minority students have taken jobs at State agencies in the province after graduation.

Such these apart, the province has paid attention to raising ethnic minority people’s intellectual standards and taking care of their health. The province has also created advantageous conditions for ethnic minority people to preserve and develop their traditional cultural identities like Thien Hau Lady Temple Festival, Ramadan Feast…

Thanks to ethnic policies implemented in a synchronous way, the material and spiritual lives of ethnic minority people in the province have been improved, creating favorable conditions for them to make contributions to the local socio-economic development.

Under its strategy on ethnic task till 2020, the province will further develop education-training among ethnic minority people; make propaganda on women’s role and position in family and society, gender equality, children’s rights and parents’ responsibilities to their children, the State and Party’s policy on freedom of religion, regulation on religious activities…
