Late April 23, provincial People’s Committee Vice-Chairman Tran Thanh Liem, leaders of sectors in the province attended an online conference on national poverty reduction, which was presided over by Deputy Minister Vu Van Minh, Head of the Central Steering Committee on Sustainable Poverty Reduction.
According to a report by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, under the Resolution No.80/NQ-CP, policies on poverty reduction have still been allocated expenditure for implementation, aiming to help poor households escape poverty.
In Binh Duong, in early 2013, the whole province had 3,615 poor households under the province’s old poverty line or 1.36% of total. As of late 2013, there were 1,853 poor households and 5,325 near-poor ones. To achieve the above results, provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs worked with sectors and mass organizations to carry out many support programs for poor households, helping them rise up out of poverty.
According to an initial report on the statistics of poor households and near-poor ones in 2014 under the new poverty line, the whole province (not including Thuan An town) has 3,361 poor households or 1.4% of total and 3,979 poor-near ones or 1.7% of total. Thus, the province has basically fulfilled its statistics on poor households and near-poor ones in order to map out timely support programs, helping them soon stabilize their lives.
