Not only is it the origin of the "Morning Coffee - Exchange with the People" model, but in recent times, Phu My Ward in Thu Dau Mot City has also been a pioneer in researching and developing numerous meaningful initiatives that enhance the Campaign to Build a Cultural and Civilized Urban Lifestyle in the region. Notably, the models "Book Park - Beautiful Smiles" and "Receive Knowledge - Give Love," which were established nearly a year ago, have drawn a significant number of students and residents to read and unwind in the park during weekends.

To promote a culture of reading
Exactly three years ago, at the Park campus in Ward 5, Phu My Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, the Women's Union of Ward 5 collaborated with the Executive Board of Ward 5 to inaugurate the Book Park project. This initiative represents the first Book Park model in the ward and serves as a significant endeavor to advance the Project for Enhancing the Quality of the Campaign to Cultivate a Cultural and Civilized Urban Lifestyle, as initiated by the Thu Dau Mot City Party Committee.
The book park features bookcases filled with a diverse array of genres, catering to students, children, and visitors seeking recreation, relaxation, and reading. The initiative aims to establish a green reading environment that harmonizes with nature while facilitating access to information. This, in turn, encourages individuals to voluntarily engage in reading, expand their knowledge, and enrich their lives. Furthermore, this represents the inaugural model in the province designed to promote a culture of reading within the community.
Recently, the Phu My Ward Party Committee has guided the Vietnam Fatherland Front and various organizations in establishing and sustaining models, while also organizing campaigns to effectively mobilize union members for their implementation. Notably, the ward has initiated the execution of models for the 2021-2025 period, specifically replicating the "Happiness Park" and "Thu Dat Tinh Tinh Hostel" models, along with five additional initiatives: "Charity Park," "National Flag Road," and "Lifetime Health Care Records." These efforts aim to diversify the methods of propaganda, enhance legal education dissemination, and promote the objectives of the "Building a Cultural and Civilized Urban Lifestyle" project within the ward. |
“Every weekend, I visit this place to read books. It’s a pleasant environment, and there is a wide selection of books and comics available for me to choose from,” remarked Nguyen Huu Minh, a student at Phu My Secondary School. The Book Park model not only draws in students but also local residents who frequent the park to unwind and read, thereby enhancing their knowledge.
To replicate the framework
After one year of operation, the Book Park model in Ward 5, Phu My Ward has emerged as a distinctive and appealing cultural destination for bibliophiles. To promote this significant initiative, in June 2023, the Phu My Ward Party Committee introduced the model "Book Park - Beautiful Smiles," "Receiving Knowledge - Giving Love" in the administrative area of Ward 1.
The establishment of the Book Park model in Ward 1 was inspired by Ms. Vo Thi Nhu Quynh, the Deputy Secretary of the Ward 1 Party Cell and a retired librarian. Initially, the Ward 1 Book Park featured a single bookcase containing approximately 300 books, which were transferred from the Thu Dau Mot City Library every three months. The bookcase was entrusted to the Ward Youth Union for management, operating to serve the community two sessions per week on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This schedule effectively meets the reading needs of local residents and students, resulting in significant support from the community. On average, the park attracts 200-300 readers daily, offering not only on-site reading but also the option for patrons to borrow books for home use through streamlined procedures. This approach has enabled Book Park Quarter 1 to disseminate valuable information and introduce noteworthy literature to its readers.

“We aim to cultivate a local reading culture that enables individuals to access information swiftly while providing students with a broader array of beneficial entertainment options, thereby reducing their engagement with video games and other electronic distractions,” Ms. Vo Thi Nhu Quynh stated.
To enhance the appeal of the Book Park for children, students, and parents, the Phu My Ward Party Committee has transitioned from the "Neighborhood Book Park" model to the "The Whole Family Reads Books - Connecting Love" model, effective August 2023. This initiative promotes the participation of multiple family members, including grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, in reading activities at Neighborhood Park 1. Within the park, parents engage in reading and relaxation, while children immerse themselves in reading, drawing, and painting.
In conjunction with the regular rotation of books from the Thu Dau Mot City Library, the Ward Party Cell and the Ward Youth Union have also organized donations of literature focused on studying and adhering to Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style, as well as images, photographs, and children's publications. These materials are displayed at the Book Park Bookcase in Ward 1, Phu My Ward, to serve the community and children during their leisure activities. Through these practical and meaningful initiatives, the Book Park model in Phu My Ward has effectively addressed the intellectual enhancement needs of the local populace. Furthermore, it serves as a distinctive cultural hub where readers can gather to engage in recreational activities and participate in enriching cultural events, thereby fostering a positive reading culture within the ward.
At the conclusion of April, numerous students from Phu My Secondary School enthusiastically engaged in the "Book Park" program for Quarter 1 in Phu My Ward, themed "Following the Path of Knowledge, Sharing Love." This initiative was organized in celebration of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21) and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). During the program, students were presented with valuable insights regarding the significance and impact of books in both education and the development of life skills. They also had the opportunity to access and explore a diverse array of literature, including works on art, social culture, history, science and technology, economics, and comics. This activity not only ignited a passion for reading but also facilitated the enhancement of critical thinking skills, broadened their knowledge base, and encouraged a commitment to lifelong learning. |
