On the days near Tet, donors are very busy with charity activities, including presenting Tet gifts to disadvantaged people. Starting the 2013 program “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims” organized by provincial Red Cross Society was to visit and present Tet gifts to the poor.
Tran Thi Lien, Chairman of provincial Red Cross Society said that the society teamed up with its Volunteers’ Club to pay Tet gift visits to the blind, bringing them a warm and happy Tet. Nguyen Thi Hop, Le Thi Hoa and many other blind people with difficulties in Thuan An town expressed their happiness when receiving Tet gifts from the program.
Superior Buddhist monk Thich Thien Duyen, Standing Member of provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Board said: “With disadvantages, the blind need to receive help from the community. Although being not big, gifts for the blind contribute to bringing them a warm Tet”.
Blind people helped stabilize their lives
Huynh Thi Khuyen, Vice-Chairman of provincial Association for the Blind said that the spiritual and material lives of the blind in the province have been basically improved. To achieve this result, in addition to the attention of Party, State and the whole community, provincial Associations for the Blind at all levels have attached special importance to employment creation, hunger eradication and poverty reduction. The whole society now has 5 massage facilities, 1 bamboo stick-making facility and many broom-making facilities, helping members enjoy the average income of VND2mln per capita per month.
Last year, provincial Association for the Blind mobilized organizations and individuals to build 3 unity houses worth nearly VND80mln for the blind in need of housing. The association also attached special importance to loans disbursement for the blind to develop home based business with total outstanding loans so far amounting to nearly VND1.6bln.
