Factory workers of CMC Vina Corporation are listening to talks on reproductive healthcare
According to statistics, abortion in Vietnam is accounted for about 300,000 cases a year, 70% of which falls to students and factory workers in industrial parks.
Vietnam is facing burdens on reproductive healthcare when the outcome of abortion is no longer personal matter but social one as long as reproduction is concerned.
Facing such problematic issues, in 2013, Youth’s League of Enterprise Block has frequently organized programs on reproductive healthcare consultancy to factory workers.
Just in December, the league has organized two programs of “Information dissemination on and education of laws, anti-drug, HIV/AIDS, demography and family planning, and healthcare for adolescence” for 500 factory workers of CMC Vina in Song Than 2 Industrial Park of Di An and of “Reproductive healthcare consultancy and STDs” integrated with information dissemination on road traffic laws to over 300 factory workers of Astro Co. Ltd. In Dong An Industrial Park of Thuan An Town.
The talks were mainly on knowledge of reproductive healthcare including ages suitable fo giving births, pregnancy health-check, taking care of pregnant women and infants, safe sex, anti-conception, anti-abortion, sex abuse, and STDs.
Cao Van Toan, a factory worker of Astro Co. Ltd. said: “In my opinion, the program is for our righteous needs as we do not have plenty of time so it’s very reasonable to have consultancy and leaf leaves.”
So as to attract the factory workers, organizers have offered funny contests with encouraging awards and given out over 500 brochures and left leaves on STDs and prevention of STDs. Free condoms were also offered at the event.
Mr. Vo Hoai Van, Deputy Secretary of Youth’s League of Enterprise Block said that the program was to equip knowledge of laws and reproductive healthcare to factory workers in a bid to improve awareness and promote voluntary spirit.
