In recent days, agencies in Ben Cat Town have made spiritual and material preparation for children in the province to enjoy a complete Mid-Autumn Festival so as to orient children to preservation of national culture.

Mid-Autumn Festival readied

With such orientation, Ben Cat Town has constructed detail plans with practical activities and gift visits to help and support children, especially children in poverty. Mr. Bui Van Chien, Head of Ben Cat Town Office of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs informed that Ben Cat Town had been chosen as a locality of provincial Mid-Autumn Festival on lunar August 14 at Ben Cat Town Center for Culture and Sports.

So as to bring up a meaningful festival, Ben Cat Town has prepared thorough steps to refine the program.

It is expected that Mid-Autumn Festival 2014 shall attract over 1,500 children and majority of parents. At the site, plenty of activities for children shall be held including lantern making, unicorn-lion-dragon dances, lantern reception procession, and gift giving to children in difficulties.

Chien explained that all the activities are to improve awareness of family responsibility, schools and social communities for the cause of protecting, caring and educating children.

Aside from the Mid-Autumn Festival, Ben Cat Town leaders held a visiting delegation to give away 550 gifts at the cost of VND 250,000 each to children of difficult circumstances.

Meantime, local leaders have also visited and presented gifts to Blind Association, Huong Duong Charity Home, and children being offered treatment at the town clinic center.

Aside from the Mid-Autumn gifts, attending children shall be offered VND 30,000 each. Full-moon cakes of charity organizations would also be given away to about 1,500 attending children.

Protecting and caring for children

Ben Cat Town currently has 16,000 children aged from 0 to 16, of which 800 children are under special circumstances, 138 orphans, and 83 children of disability. For the time, Ben Cat Town has been considered as a locality of good protection of and care for children.

In the first 6 months of the year, Ben Cat Town has presented gifts at the cost of VND 500,000 each to 450 children in difficult circumstances. In the action month for children in 2014 under theme of “actions for a society without violence and children abuse”, Ben Cat Town youths drive decorative vehicles along the street calling for all-level authorities to commit to creation of equal developmental opportunities for children to minimize violence and abuse against children.

Local wards and communes have fully implemented policies and preference for children in general and children in difficult circumstances.

As a result, all children under 6 have been offered medical insurance cards and social
allowances have reached orphans and children in difficult circumstances.

Orienting to equality for children, Ben Cat Town has called upon organizations, individuals and unions to build playground for children.

On International Children Day, local wards and communes have mobilized to offer 850 scholarship and 635 gifts including rice, schoolbags, notebooks, candies and cash at the cost of over VND 110 million to children in families of poverty.

It is hopeful that love for children shall be thoroughly cared for and offered best schooling and playing conditions.
