Building cultural life for workers at industrial parks

Building material facilities

On Oct. 12, 2011, Prime Minister issued Decision No.1780/QD-TTg on ratifying a project of “Building cultural life for workers at industrial parks till 2015” with the purpose of reaching 70% of workers and employers enjoying legal knowledge on building a cultural living, over 70% of them joining in cultural and sport activities, 80% of businesses winning the cultural standards in line with regulations of the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

In the recent years, under attention and instruction of the Government, all level agencies and sectors and industrial parks at Binh Duong have paid much attention to workers’ spiritual living. In order to improve shortage and weakness of cultural institution system for workers at industrial parks, authorities and businesses have invested and perfected systems such as school, hospital, medical station, library, theatre, cinema, entertainment area, sport area and many more. In addition, authorities have offered favorable conditions for businesses to join in creating playgrounds and relaxation areas for laborers.

Accordingly, some companies have focused on building cultural institutions to serve for workers. They include Becamex IDC Corp, Dau Tieng Rubber Company, Phuoc Hoa Rubber Company, Vietnam-Singapore Vocational College and so on. In addition, many other businesses have actively built and organized relax activities for workers.

Trinh Anh Tuan, chairman of Hai My Co.Ltd. trade union in Binh Chuan ward, Thuan An town said, “Aside from business, the company has always focused on workers’ spiritual and material life. Thanks to the positive care, our workers feel secure in their work. However, relaxation activity for workers at the company remains shortcomings, so the society needs to pay more attention to laborers’ living”.

Many significant playgrounds

Businesses paying much attention to laborers’ playgrounds have contributed to improve cultural and spiritual living for workers. In order to create more playgrounds for laborers, industrial parks’ trade unions have steered locals to hold many cultural, artistic, sport activities to create healthy and useful playgrounds for workers and trade unions’ members.

Notably, Hai My Co.Ltd. with 6,500 workers has built an outdoor stage, football ground, library, kindergarten and so on. Additionally, the company has held excursions for workers on festivals and anniversaries. The company now has men and women’s football teams and musical teams that constantly exchange with other units inside and outside of Thuan An town. Additionally, Hai My has built bulletins for workers to offer information on the company operation, typical worker examples, regulations and so on for workers. The company bulletins have been distributed over 7,000 units per edition for 4 times/month.

Meanwhile, Thong Dung Footwear Co.Ltd. in Thuan An town with about 7,000 workers has completed construction of a relax area for workers. Worker Ha Thi Lung, 32, from Thanh Hoa province shared “I am very happy when joining in cultural and art and sport activities held by the company. We have enjoyed excursions at tourism sites in Dong Nai, HCMC, Tay Ninh. From these excursions, we have made new friends and enriched knowledge on living. In addition, the company has held legal promulgation to help workers obey their responsibility to locality”.

Nguyen Thien Phuoc, vice chairman of the provincial Labor Union said “Paying attention to cultural and spiritual living for workers at industrial parks and compounds has been focused by trade unions of localities. In 2013, Ben Cat industrial park trade union in cooperation with Ben Cat district Center for Culture, Sport and the provincial Labor Magazine and My Phuoc Theatre held a musical contest for laborers with the participation of 15,000 workers. In addition, industrial parks’ trade unions held activities themed “Week for young workers” and “Month for workers” and many more. Meanwhile, locals often created playgrounds for laborers by building football, volleyball, ping-pong grounds and so on to help them relax after working days”.

However, holding playgrounds for workers remains shortcomings. Many industrial parks have yet to complete incentive policies for laborers.
