A ceremony to launch the 12th National Week on Occupational Safety, Hygiene and Prevention of Fires Explosions (OSH-PFE) will be held in southern province of Binh Duong today, March 23.
According to Huynh Thi Hong Thu, deputy head of provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, who is also deputy head of the provincial Steering Board of the 12th National Week on OSH-PFE, the annual event aims to raise the awareness and responsibility of employers and employees in ensuring labor safety and hygiene to minimize physical and material losses, reduce labor accidents, occupational diseases, fires and explosions…, contributing to stabilizing and developing the national economy.

In 2009, province-based businesses paid more attention to taking care of laborers’ health; organized training courses on labor safety and hygiene, fire and explosion prevention; promoted information dissemination and improved working environment; sufficiently equipped anti-fire equipment…Consequently, there were only 23 serious occupational accidents, killing 24 people. The figure saw decrease in comparison to previous years. Provincial fire prevention and fighting force also protected assets worth VND438.906bln via the fire fighting work. The number of laborers provided periodic health check-ups by businesses increased by 6.61% in comparison to 2008.
Major tasks for this year include promoting information dissemination, encouraging consulting services on OSH-PFE; organizing contests on OSH-PFE; strengthening supervision of the execution of OSH in businesses, especially those with high risk of occupational accidents; seriously penalize infringements of the labor laws.
