In the coming Tết, husband and wife of Mr. Nguyen Hoang Sang and Mrs. On Thi Lap are joyful to receive a charity house offered by fund of Thanh Phuoc Commune’s Women Association after one month of fire incident.
A charity house is awarded.
“When the fire broke out, we are having dinner at the front yard. A loud explosion caused by electricity short circuit has sparked up fierce fire. We were all in dispair rushing in the house to help two children out and our only precious motorcycle. I’ve got burns on my arms and my husband has burns on his back,” Mrs. Lap retold the tragic story of her family. They, then, treated the burns at their own risk for lacking of money to get to hospital. However, life has given them a chance. A brick kiln owner, who has hired Mr. Sang, has offered them with VND 5 million together with bricks to rebuild the house while Thanh Phuoc Commune’s Association has funded up to VND 10 million to make up to VND 60 million covering the costs of build an new house on an area of 70 sq m.
Meantime, family of Ms. Truong Thi Phuong is no longer in worry of a house for their own. The house building sponsored by club of female entrepreneurs was strengthened with another VND 35 million of relatives.
“We will enjoy a warm Tết holiday under a house’s roof with decent altar for acestor worship,” said Ms. Truong Thi Phuong.
The meetings with sponsors are always special events. I was most impressed with Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy who is a vegetarian for life. She gathers vendors in An Dong market of Ho Chi Minh City to establish Bong Sen (Lotus) Charity Group. Up to 2010, her group has helped to build 10 charity houses, health check centers, charity healthcare in Tanh Linh, Binh Thuan at the cost of VND 250 million. In the past year, total value of their charity funds has reached over VND 600 million.
“Charity is joyful for we bring on helps to people in difficulties. In the last flood relief, we visited the Central Region where houses were all alone on hill tops. We were moved by the scene,” she said.
