Chinese community in TDM city actively gets involved in social charity activities

During the past 20 years, four Chinese colonies in TDM city actively got involved in social charity activities and is now one of the province’s leading units in this field. From this help, tens of families had a chance to live in new houses and receive practical gifts to stabilize their lives…

Thanks to the attention of the local authorities at all levels, the spiritual and material lives of more than 1,300 Chinese households in TDM city have got thriving. Chinese people in the city under the instruction of the Executive Board of the four Chinese colonies have well realized the Party and State’s policies and laws while actively taking part in social charity activities.

Vuong Vinh Thang, Head of Chinese colony from Chaozhou said that all money from the annual Lady Thien Hau temple was previously used to take care of Chinese people with difficult circumstances and their offspring. Upon this, Chinese people in the city have so far stabilized their lives.

When getting well-off living conditions, four Chinese colonies in the city have aimed at social charity activities. Upholding the spirit of “When drinking water, remember its source”, they have actively raised money for the local Fund for the Poor, the Fund for Agent Orange victims; offered help to orphans, lonely elderly people…They spend around VND1.5bln on social charity activities every year. In 2015 alone, they supported VND1.7bln for 34 units to take care of needy people.

The four Chinese colonies have just organized a delegation to visit and present more than VND33mln and more than 4 tons of rice to provincial Social Support Center, provincial Blind Association, TDM city’s Blind Association, province Vocational Training Center for Disable People, provincial General Hospital’s charity kitchen, Hoi Khanh pagoda’s charity kitchen. They have also contributed VND60mln to building a gratitude house for Tran Thi Thua, a martyr’s wife in Phu Cuong ward’s quarter 2 in TDM city.

In addition, the four Chinese colonies have just supported hundreds of million of dong for sectors and mass organizations in the city to visit and present Tet gifts to needy people, helping them enjoy the 2016 Tet (Lunar New Year) festival. They have also given help to disadvantaged people in other localities, including Can Tho, HCM city, Lam Dong…with the annual support level of hundreds of million of dong.

According to Phan My Oanh, Vice-Chairwoman of TDM city’s Fatherland Front Committee, social charity activities done by the four Chinese colonies have not only helped improve the material and spiritual lives of disadvantaged people, but also created a profound effect in educating Chinese descendants in particular and locals in general about the good relationship between human beings.
