With the spirit of solidarity and community responsibility, the “Civilized Saturday” campaign has spread across Phu Giao district through practical and meaningful actions. Initiatives on planting flowers, beautifying roads, installing security cameras and supporting social welfare are creating a new, vibrant and compassionate look for the community, contributing to building up a cultural and civilized way of life.
From practical actions
Visitors to Duoi Chuot hamlet in Phu Giao district’s Tam Lap commune are often impressed by the model roads in the area. The village roads are green, clean and beautiful, fully equipped with lighting systems—all forming model, spacious and civilized routes. Tran Thi Thanh Thao, Head of Duoi Chuot hamlet’s Management Board shared that the management board and the local Fatherland Front committee have coordinated efforts to promote the implementation of cultural and civilized living practices in the residential area.
“To concretize the contents of the Project No.02 and implement the ‘Civilized Saturday’ initiative into specific tasks suited to the local context, we have focused on raising awareness and mobilizing people to donate land, fruit trees and crops for the construction of rural roads. We have also encouraged residents to plant flowers along the roadsides, install street lights and security cameras, creating a bright, green, clean, beautiful and safe environment. As a result, the hamlet has successfully mobilized residents to donate 6,000 square meters of land, plant 3.5 kilometers of flower-lined roads and install dozens of streetlights, security cameras and even a volleyball court”, said Mrs.Thao.
In Tam Lap commune, the local Fatherland Front Committee has played a key role in mobilizing residents to take part in building a civilized lifestyle. Specifically, they have promoted and mobilized the planting of 12 new and renovated flower roads with 800 flower trees, including crape myrtle, queen’s wreath, yellow bell, ixora and frangipani, with a total value of VND 80 million. The commune has also built three national flag roads with 400 flag poles valued at VND 88 million, installed 40 security cameras worth nearly VND 70 million and erected four propaganda billboards using socialized funding.
The commune’s Fatherland Front Committee has also placed great emphasis on social welfare, mobilizing residents to donate over VND 78 million to support people in northern provinces affected by storms and floods; raised VND 45 million for the “For the Poor” fund, presented 350 gift packages worth VND 140 million and repaired one "Great Solidarity" house valued at nearly VND 40 million. In addition, the commune has implemented a model on waste classification at source, contributing to raising environmental awareness among local officials and residents.
Tam Lap communal Women's Union is also one of the most active organizations in implementing “Civilized Saturday” through innovative initiatives.. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, Chairwoman of the local Women’s Union said that in response to the campaign, the local Women’s Union has actively organized activities in association with environmental protection, building a green–clean–beautiful rural landscape. Over the past time, the local Women’s Union held three cleaning and flower-planting campaigns along local roads, attracting 75 members. They also introduced a “Model Flower Garden” at Tam Lap Kindergarten and a “Model Flower Road” project in Duoi Chuot hamlet.
In collaboration with military units, the local Women’s Union carried out community mobilization, cleaning up DH502 road, the precincts of the communal People’s Committee and schools. They conducted seven environmental clean-up campaigns, maintaining a 2-kilometer flower road with 275 participants. Environmental protection models such as “Family Trash Bins – Joining Hands to Protect the Environment” in Duoi Chuot hamlet with 28 members; the “Women’s Scrap-Saving Club” in all four local Women’s Union branches and the “Green House” model were also effectively implemented. Notably, the local Women’s Union led communication efforts to guide residents in classifying household solid waste at source in Dong Tam hamlet, helping raise awareness and build eco-friendly living habits.
Exemplary individuals
In An Thai Commune, Tran Thi Uoc, Head of Tan Binh hamlet’s Mass Mobilization Committee has been recently commended by provincial Party Committee as a model figure in the “Civilized Saturday” movement. She mobilized residents to donate land for road construction, built two new flower roads of over 1,000 meters and maintained two flower roads of 800 meters. She also registered and encouraged locals to participate in competitions for beautiful flower roads, zones and created a national flag road of 200 meters with 60 national flags.
Likewise, Nguyen Van Kham, Head of hamlet 9’s Mass Mobilization Committee in An Linh commune has been a role model in building a bright–green–clean–beautiful landscape. He organized the planting of 120 bougainvillea trees, mobilized residents to maintain 6 kilometers of flower roads and installed 33 solar-powered streetlights along a 1-kilometer stretch at a cost of VND 46 million. He also created a 350-meter national flag road with 32 flags.
Possibly seeing, in Phu Giao district, the “Civilized Saturday” spirit goes beyond slogans. It has truly spread through meaningful, concrete actions. Powerful statistics such as thousands of meters of newly planted flower roads, hundreds of fluttering national flags and tens of millions of dong raised for the poor and social welfare initiatives are vivid proof of the unity, responsibility and love for the homeland among local people. Being more than just a movement, “Civilized Saturday” has become a beautiful cultural tradition, helping transform rural areas, building up a brighter, greener, cleaner and affectionated Phu Giao.
