Committed to executing plan for removing temporary and deteriorating housing structures

“Eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing” for impoverished, nearly-impoverished, and disadvantaged households, as well as individuals with meritorious services, constitutes a significant policy being executed by various levels, sectors, and localities within the province. Embracing the ethos of “Leaving no one behind,” Thu Dau Mot city and surrounding areas are dedicated to implementing and mobilizing all available resources to ensure the program achieves its objectives on time and in accordance with the established plan.

Housing support for individuals

Mrs. Nguyen Thu Cuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City, stated that as a civilized and compassionate city, Thu Dau Mot has consistently prioritized the welfare of residents facing housing challenges, alongside its political and socio-economic objectives. Numerous timely support initiatives, including housing assistance programs, charitable homes, solidarity houses, Red Cross houses, and friendship houses, have been effectively implemented with the collaboration of various sectors, levels, and philanthropists. These efforts have significantly alleviated housing difficulties for many families, thereby positively contributing to the development of a civilized and compassionate urban environment.

To execute the program of "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" in 2025, initiated by the Central Government and the province, the relevant functional branches of the city and localities have conducted a comprehensive inspection and assessment of the individuals eligible for support under the program. This review was carried out with urgency and determination, ensuring that no circumstances were overlooked, with the aim of addressing them promptly, efficiently, and thoughtfully.

The survey report of the wards indicates that there are currently 8 households in the city facing housing difficulties. Among these, 5 households are seeking repairs in accordance with Resolution No. 17/2020/NQ-HDND, dated December 10, 2020, issued by the Provincial People's Council, which outlines the support levels for the construction and repair of homes for individuals with revolutionary contributions in the province. Additionally, 2 households lack both a permanent residence and land, residing instead in temporary or rented accommodations.

The survey results regarding the housing circumstances of impoverished and near-impoverished households in the city indicate that there are presently 15 households eligible for new construction and repairs. Additionally, 16 households possess shared land certificates but have yet to divide their plots. Ms. Nguyen Thu Cuc stated that in alignment with the directives of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the city will facilitate the organization of documents and procedures to complete the construction and repairs for households with meritorious services and those deemed eligible by April 30, 2025. In this context, localities within the city are currently expeditiously executing related tasks to ensure adherence to provincial directives.

In response to the initiative of "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses," the Foreign Trade Bank, Binh Duong Branch, extended financial assistance to Phu Hoa Ward for the construction of solidarity houses for the community.

According to statistics from the functional sector, there are currently 804 impoverished households and 308 near-impoverished households in Thu Dau Mot City. Recently, the city has consistently focused on directing efforts to review and assess the circumstances of poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households to provide timely assistance, particularly regarding housing. Consequently, during the period from 2021 to 2025, the city has constructed and renovated 56 gratitude houses and 125 solidarity houses. In 2024 alone, the city has built 13 new houses and repaired 11 existing ones.

Resolved to finish on time

In addition to the eligible households, the review conducted in localities revealed that there are currently 35 cases in the city (including 2 households with meritorious services) that do not meet eligibility criteria (lacking both housing and land) and are facing challenging circumstances requiring housing assistance. Regarding this group, the leader of Thu Dau Mot City stated that in the near future, the city will mobilize social resources and seek social housing options based on the apartment model for low-income individuals, encouraging local enterprises to contribute housing for those without homes or land. "Providing apartments in this manner necessitates substantial resources. Achieving this goal will require the support of organizations, units, individuals, and particularly enterprises investing in social housing within the area," Mrs. Nguyen Thu Cuc remarked.

The program of "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" represents a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals, while simultaneously reflecting the commitment and responsibility of the Party Committee, government, organizations, and philanthropists towards families facing challenging housing situations. This effort assists families in establishing stable living conditions and fosters their motivation to pursue a better life. In a spirit of urgency, recent actions by various sectors and localities in Thu Dau Mot City have involved mobilizing resources and organizing the construction and repair of homes for those in need of improved housing conditions.

In response to the emulation movement "Joining Hands to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" in the region, the Military Command of Thu Dau Mot City recently collaborated with the government, various sectors, and organizations in Hiep An Ward to facilitate the handover of the "Temporary and Dilapidated House" repair project to Mr. Tu Van Cam's family in Ward 5.

Mr. Tu Van Cam's family is recognized as a low-income household within the ward. Due to ongoing hardships, their residence has significantly deteriorated over the years, yet they lack the means to undertake necessary repairs. In light of Mr. Cam's circumstances, the Military Command of Thu Dau Mot City has deployed officers and soldiers from the city's armed forces to collaborate with local Party committees and authorities in facilitating the repair of the family's home.

With an area of 60m2, the house, following renovations, became more spacious and robust, and was subsequently handed over to the family for occupancy, with a total repair cost of 80 million VND. On the day of receiving the house, Mr. Cam's family representative expressed gratitude to the sectors and localities that assisted in providing the family with a shelter to shield them from the elements. For Mr. Cam's family, this expansive home serves as motivation to persist in their business endeavors, surmount challenging circumstances, and cultivate an increasingly stable life.

To achieve this profoundly humane and significant objective under the guidance of the province, it necessitates the collective effort of the entire political system, organizations, and individuals in Thu Dau Mot City to foster the traditions of solidarity, compassion, and empathy. This includes contributing resources and offering both material and spiritual support to ensure that disadvantaged households are afforded optimal conditions to enhance their housing, work, and produce with peace of mind, thereby contributing to the development of their homeland and country.
